Background and history
Hi! Hereβs my story..
From humble beginnings recording and producing artists out of a makeshift bedroom studio in Yorkshire, my work caught the ear of the right people and I found myself in London working on sessions in the likes of XL Records studio, and The London Sound Lab (RIP!)
London Sound Lab was a somewhat chaotic toy shop full of weird and wonderful vintage gear, character and charm. I absolutely loved being there, and spent as much time as I could playing with gear, recording, listening, learning..
It was from there in 2008 that the studio owner (Mark Thompson) asked me to help oversee and manage the build of a 2000sq/ft facility that would become Snap Studios.
Obviously I didnβt know how to build a studio properly so I asked every question imaginable, and learned everything I could on the job - leaning on the expertise of some the most respected brains in the studio installation world.
After a year-long build I took on the role of Snapβs studio assistant / studio manager and spent the next few years watching, listening and learning everything I could from the engineers and producers coming through the studio - working under the likes of Jerry Boys, John Leckie, John Wood, Joe Boyd and Tony Platt.
Those early years provided me with a foundation which I now consider to be at the heart of the way I work and the sound I appreciate, and I consider myself incredibly lucky to have received their guidance, knowledge and patience.
Snap was awarded Best New Studio and the MPG Award for Studio of The Year in 2012.
I took on the role of head engineer at Snap shortly after, and in the following years began to work freelance outside of the studio.
And here we are now.
I donβt know how many years have passed or how many records Iβve made since then, but itβs quite a lot..!
Iβm passionate about helping to bring an artist's creative vision to life, and enjoy working in collaborative ways to help a project maximise its potential.
I would describe myself as half purist half adventurist, with a keen focus on vibe, character and detail in recordings, and I love to push boundaries creatively and sonically.
Although Snap will always be home Iβm very happy to work wherever suits the project best and have enjoyed sessions at AIR, RAK, Strongroom, State Of The ARK, and many more.
If you think I could bring something to your project, please get in touch!
